At Lighthouse Louisiana, we believe vision goes beyond sight and independence is something everyone deserves. We’re actively hiring TWO Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialists (COMS) to support individuals who are blind or visually impaired as they reclaim independence and learn to thrive.
What You’ll Do
As part of our Pathways to Success (PTS) team, you’ll work with clients of all ages conducting assessments, delivering individualized O&M instruction, supporting workplace and community inclusion, and contributing to the overall growth of our vision rehabilitation programs.
You’ll work across settings including homes, workplaces, public spaces, and Lighthouse facilities while designing training that empowers safe, independent travel through:
- White cane navigation
- Public transit training
- Environmental assessments
- Community-based instruction
- Assistive technology integration
You’re a Great Fit If You:
- Hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Orientation & Mobility from an accredited program
- Are ACVREP certified (or eligible) as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist
- Have at least 350 hours of O&M instruction experience
- Are confident teaching clients of all ages and ability levels, including those with multiple disabilities
- Can navigate urban and rural training environments
- Excel at collaboration, documentation, and client-focused care
- Are mission-driven and eager to make a direct impact

The Work Environment
You’ll split your time across:
- Outdoor, indoor, and public spaces for client training
- Lighthouse Louisiana locations in New Orleans and Baton Rouge serving Southwest Louisiana
- Community-based outreach and education events
This position is full-time, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend events or trainings. A valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and willingness to travel across service regions is required.
